Case Study - Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow May 2009

Glasgow Science Centre is Scotland's flagship Millennium Project. Housed in three stunning buildings at Pacific Quay on the Clyde, GSC brings science and technology to life through hundreds of interactive exhibits in the Science Mall and the unique experiences of the GSC IMAX® Theatre and the Glasgow Tower. GSC's Science Mall is the centrepiece of the complex, with four floors of hands-on exhibits, food, drink and other visitor facilities, theatres and much more.

As well as learning through hundreds of hands-on science exhibits celebrating human creativity, visitors to the mall will be able to see lively shows and interact with real objects, real processes, real experiments, real phenomena, and novel environments.

We were awarded the prestigious contract to lay hardwood flooring in this beautiful museum. If you would like to see our work it is located in the Café and shop area in the Science Mall.

We used a battened timber floating flooring, Clyde (Our own brand) beech classic lacquered finish hardwood; 22mm thick. It was supported on a 2mm thick foam base, with a vapour control layer and all movement joints and perimeter edge trims; all as per the manufacturer's recommendations.

You may notice the complicated raking cutting on the ground floor café (Raking is when the wood has to be cut to run along a wall that is not perpendicular to the wood.) and cutting to profile around perimeter of ground floor café/servery curved wall, both expertly finished by our craftsmen.
