Yesterday was the first working day of the new year for most of our wood flooring operatives with some travelling south to Yarm, Middlesbourgh to continue with the installation of the sports floor at the new Yarm School and some returning north to Elgin Academy to also pick up where they left off with the school sports floor fit out that started in December 2011.
One of the more newsworthy new jobs to kick off the year is the beginning of the installation of over 2,000m2 of Junckers SylvaSport Premium beech sports flooring to the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and National Indoor Sports Arena that is being built in the East End of Glasgow by main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine for Glasgow city council and the impending Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The size and scope of this particular job means we have added a new member to our installation team and we take this opportunity to welcome Kieran Kilpatrick to the company. Kieran begins his 3 year apprenticeship on site at the Velodrome and under the stewardship of Stephen Cunningham, one of our most senior flooring operative who himself started out as an apprentice with McKay Flooring Ltd over twenty years ago.
The works at the Velodrome are expected to take about six weeks to install all the flooring and mark out and line all the sports courts required and we’ll update as we go.[maxbutton id="1"]
