Reclaimed sports flooring London

Reclaimed sports flooring London
McKay Flooring Ltd via our specialist sport flooring division, recently undertook the installation of over 1,000 m2 of sprung basketball flooring for Lewisham Thunder basketball club at their new Stockholm road premise.

Having secured funding to develop two new championship standard basketball courts the club contacted us in December 2012 and asked to to provide a quotation and technical assistance to help them achieve the sprung sports flooring surface required for competitive basketball.

In early January 2013 our head sports flooring surveyor visited their new Stockholm Road premises in Lewisham, London and undertook a full survey of the site – taking detailed measurements and a survey of the existing concrete surface. Once surveyed we starting building a specification for a suitable sprung wooden basketball floor that was compatible and would deliver the high quality sports surface required.

Working within the budget available a specification for a sprung basketball court was proposed using reclaimed Junckers SylvaSport beech flooring, installed over the existing concrete subfloor on a high performance sports underlay using the Junckers clip system to secure the flooring.

Once all technical details were settled and a programme of works agreed upon a team of McKay Flooring Sports Flooring Operatives arrived onsite in late July with the reclaimed sports flooring to begin the works.

Screeding works were first carried out to the subfloor to correct any dips and flaws in the floor levels. The specialist sprung sport underlay foam was installed with the reclaimed Junckers floated over the foam, secured by the clips.

Our sports flooring sanding division then took over, machine sanding the entire floor back to the bare beech wood which was then primed and coated with 3 coats of specialist sports lacquer. The FIBA regulation Basketball court markings were then installed before a final coat of the sports lacquer was applied to seal in the court line markings and add additional protection to the sports surface.

All works were completed within the agreed timescales and the required competition standard Basketball courts were delivered on budget.
